The Seven Continents of the World

The world is geographically divided into seven primary continents, which serve as the major landmasses of Earth. These continents are identified as Asya (Asia), Aprika (Africa), Hilagang Amerika (North America), Timog Amerika (South America), Antarktika (Antarctica), Europa (Europe), and Australia. Each continent is distinct in its geographical location and is bordered by specific bodies of water that define its regional boundaries.

Geographical Boundaries and Surrounding Water Bodies of Asia and Africa

Asya, the largest continent, is bordered by three major oceans. To the East (Silangan), it is bounded by the Karagatang Pasipiko (Pacific Ocean). To the South (Timog), it is bordered by the Karagatang Indian (Indian Ocean), and to the North (Hilaga), it is bounded by the Karagatang Arctic (Arctic Ocean).

Africa (Aprika) is positioned between several major water bodies. To its West (Kanluran), it is bordered by the Karagatang Atlantic (Atlantic Ocean), and to its East (Silangan), it is bounded by the Karagatang Indian (Indian Ocean). To the North (Hilaga) of Africa lies the Dagat Mediterranean (Mediterranean Sea), while to the Northeast (Hilagang-Silangan), it is bordered by the Dagat Pula (Red Sea).

Geographical Boundaries of the Americas and Antarctica

Hilagang Amerika (North America) is surrounded by four distinct bodies of water. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the East (silangan), the Pacific Ocean to the West (kanluran), and the Arctic Ocean to the North (hilaga). Additionally, the Caribbean Sea is located to its Southeast (timog-silangan).

Timog Amerika (South America) shares similar oceanic borders, being bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the East (silangan) and the Pacific Ocean to the West (kanluran). The Caribbean Sea borders the northern part (hilagang bahagi) of the continent.

Antarktika (Antarctica) is the southernmost continent and is primarily surrounded by the Southern Ocean, also known as the Karagatang Timog. This body of water is the primary aquatic environment encircling the entirety of the continent.

Theories on the Formation and Movement of Continents

There are three major theories discussed regarding the physical history and formation of the continents. The first is the Continental Drift theory, proposed by Alfred Wegener. According to this theory, the world was once a single supercontinent known as Pangaea. Over the passage of time, this massive landmass broke apart and drifted into the separate continents recognized today.

The second theory is Plate Tectonics. This theory posits that the Earth's crust is composed of various moving plates. The movement of these plates is the fundamental cause behind the formation of continents, the creation of mountain ranges, and the occurrence of earthquakes. Currently, Plate Tectonics is the most widely accepted and supported theory in the scientific community (ang pinaka-pinagtibay na teorya ngayon).

The third concept is the Land Bridge (Tulay na Lupa) theory. This theory suggests that during the Ice Age, the global sea levels dropped significantly. This drop caused land bridges to emerge, connecting separate landmasses. These bridges facilitated the movement and migration of various organisms across different regions of the world.
