One is for perceptual realism (911) and the other is made to be a spectacle

Digital visual effects can be used in cinema to enhance realism and also to create spectacles that could not be recreated in the real world. Whilst the 911 film is meant to focus on enchancing the perceptual realism of the scene and make it feel as though the characters are truly enduring a plane flight gone awry, Jurassic Park uses digital visual effects as a narrative spectacle.
