School Facilities, Environment, and Safety
School Facilities and Learning Environment
Outdoor Facilities and Accessibility
The school features two distinct outdoor playgrounds. One is specifically designed for Head Start students, catering to children aged two to five years old. A separate playground is available for other students. Additionally, the school boasts a nature trail that is entirely handicap accessible, ensuring inclusivity for all. To facilitate safe movement between these various outdoor areas, crosswalks are installed for crossing roads.
Indoor Building Standards and Maintenance
Internally, the entire school building adheres to all relevant codes and regulations, maintaining high standards for safety and functionality. Custodial staff are employed to ensure cleanliness and address maintenance issues, working both in the evenings to clean classrooms and during the day to fix any problems. Teachers and staff have access to safe cleaning materials for daily use.
Classroom Amenities and Hygiene
Classrooms in the K-2 Wing are well-equipped with essential hygiene facilities. Each classroom in this wing has its own sink, supplied with soap and paper towels, and hand sanitizer is also readily available. Furthermore, every classroom in the K-2 Wing shares a bathroom with an adjacent classroom. These shared bathrooms feature child-sized toilets and are fully handicap accessible, supporting the needs of young children and those with disabilities.
Classroom Environment and Furniture
All classrooms within the school building are handicap accessible. The furniture, including chairs and tables, is set at levels appropriate for the chronological ages of the children using them, promoting comfort and proper ergonomics. All toys and learning items provided in the classrooms are designed to be easily sanitized and cleaned, ensuring a hygienic learning environment for students.
Kindergarten Learning Environment
The kindergarten learning environment is rich in visual stimuli and hands-on resources. Classrooms incorporate numerous visual aids such as alphabet charts and calendars to support early learning. There are abundant play center toys to encourage imaginative play and social development. Dedicated stations are provided for literacy materials, math materials, and a science observation area, allowing for focused learning in these subjects. Consumable supplies like paper, pencils, markers, crayons, and scissors are readily available for students to use as needed.
Safety and Security Features
For safety and security, each classroom is equipped with both an indoor door and an outside door, providing two distinct exit points. The rooms are designed to be easily locked and secured quickly, which is crucial for emergency situations such as lockdowns or evacuations.
