Opiod crises and neddle use in Kensington, Pennsylvania
Why I think this is public health related….this crises is a huge factor of infectious disease. Shared or discarded needles increase risk of HIV, Hep B&C along with other blood borne infection for both the drug users and the community. The needles that are left in the parks, sidewalks. Also due to the large amount of homelessness individuals also spread disease through fecal matter that is in the streets. All of these issues are a public hazard for every individuals public safety. Not only this being an opioid crisis it’s also an addiction crisis…just in Kensington alone it shows how severe the opioid epidemic has become, when fentanyl and tranq (xylazine) get mixed it makes overdose highly more deadly. Individuals suffer with necrosis from these opioids which later results in these individuals becoming amputees.
