Hanover dynasty

After the death of Queen Anne the English throne was passed to the house of Hanover and George I became king. The Hanovers were a german family that didn’t speak a word of English so he had to rely upon the Parliamentary ministers. During this time there were no ballots so elections could be corrupted and bribery started to run among the politicians. Whigs became powerful and taxes on chocolate, tea and coffee started to rise. George I had to fight the Jacobites rebellions that wanted James Stuart on the throne. During the reign of George I Walpole became the first Prime Minister and when George II succeeded his father he gave the prime minister a house in 10 Downing Street that is the house of the prime minister even now.
