Forces

• A force is a push or pull
• Forces cause objects to change speed or stretch/squash an object
• Forces can work being in contact with each other or at a distance
• The unit for forces is newtons (N)
• All forces are vector quantities

Resultant Force

• Resultant force is the measure of how unbalanced the forces are
• If the forces are balanced it is 0 and the object is moving at a constant speed
• If the forces are unbalanced the speed will change and it will accelerate in the direction of the resultant force
• If the resultant force is acting backwards the object will decelerate
