special considerations

  • For infants or children with very fast heart rates you may find it necessary to adjust the paper speed to 50mm/ sec; This will allow the physician to view each of the deflections on the ECG

  • patients with ventricular infarction may need V4R (V4 placed on the right side of the chest)

  • By increasing the speed to 50 mm/second, the EKG appears to slow, and waves that were previously bunched together due to tachycardia become more clearly visible because of the spacing of the waveforms
