Trade Offs and Opportunity Cos

Trade Offs and Opportunity Cos

Trade offs represent the essential economic compromises made when choosing one course of action over another. Because resources such as time, capital, energy, and material goods are limited, choosing to allocate resources toward a specific option inherently requires relinquishing alternative choices.

Opportunity Cos, or opportunity costs, measure the overall value of the next best alternative that is foregone when a decision is made. Evaluating opportunity cost allows individuals and organizations to analyze the true comparative benefit and sacrifice associated with any decision, beyond simple financial expenses.
