pH Scale

p (represents a quantity) and H (represents the hydrogen ion)

pH represents the quantity of hydrogen ions

The pH scale is used to measure the acidity and alkalinity of substances.

It has a range of 0 to 14.

• A pH of 7 is neutral solution

• A pH below 7 indicates an acidic solution

• A pH above 7 indicates an alkaline solution

The pH is always a balance of both acidity and alkalinity.

Pure water has a pH of 7 so it has an equal balance therefore: neutral

However for our hair and skin, it is not neutral with an average of 4.5 or 5.5. So it is slightly acidic.

Pure water is a pH of 7 meaning that it is 100 times more alkaline then our hair and skin.
