Unit 1: Becoming a Scientist, Engineer, or Inventor (Weeks of 8/12/2024 & 8/19/2024)
Overview: Introduction to scientific inquiry and the nature of science.
NGSSS Curriculum Standards Addressed:
SC.4.N.1.1: Raise questions about the natural world, use reference materials, conduct individual and team investigations, and generate explanations.
SC.4.N.1.2: Compare observations from different groups using multiple tools and explain differences.
SC.4.N.1.3: Explain that science doesn't always follow a rigid method but involves observations and empirical evidence.
SC.4.N.1.4: Attempt reasonable answers to scientific questions and cite evidence.
SC.4.N.1.6: Keep records of observations, distinguishing between actual observations and inferences.
SC.4.N.1.7: Recognize scientists base explanations on evidence.
SC.4.N.3.1: Explain models can be 3D, 2D, mental, or computer-based.
Activities/Investigations: Observation exercises, using pictures, and understanding the nature of science through observation and inference.
*Long Term Investigation (LTI) Video observation
Unit 2: What is an Engineer? (Week of 8/26/2024)
Overview: Introduction to engineering concepts.
NGSSS Curriculum Standards Addressed:

Activities/Investigations: Observation exercises and pictures.
Unit 3: Energy and Motion (Weeks of 9/2/2024 & 9/9/2024)
Overview: Exploring energy's ability to cause motion and change.
NGSSS Curriculum Standards Addressed:
SC.4.P.10.2: Investigate and describe that energy has the ability to cause motion and create change.
