Limiting Reactants

  • Reactions stop when all of one of the reactants is used up
  • A reactant that is used up is called a limiting reactant (because it limits the amount of product that has formed)

Calculating the amount of product from the limiting reactant:

  1. Balance equation
  2. Work out Mr'
  3. Work out moles
  4. Use the balanced equation to work out how many moles the other substance has
  5. Use number of moles to calculate mass
