Cancer
Monday 9th October ‘23
Once cells have divided enough to replace, repair or grow enough, they release chemical messages that stop cell division. The rate of cell division can depend on environmental factors (e.g. nutrients, oxygen, hormones known as growth factors), and also genetics.
Causes
Inherited risk factors: In normal cells, these genes help make proteins that repair damaged DNA. Mutated versions of these genes can lead to abnormal cell growth, which can lead to cancer.
