Sort Your Heart Action Plan Notes

The problem is segregation remains persistent due to insufficient monitoring and community discipline; success requires ongoing monitoring and active participation from residents as well as organizers. The project "Sort Your Heart" introduces color-coded, emotion-themed bins with motivational messages to engage passers-by, linking positive feelings to waste segregation and encouraging better disposal habits for a cleaner community.

Objectives: The project aims to promote proper waste segregation by educating the community on correctly separating biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable waste using clearly labeled bins and signage; to reduce unwanted waste by fostering responsible habits; to raise environmental awareness through campaigns, school talks, and community events, especially targeting youth. Strategies and activities include implementing the "Sort Your Heart" approach in the barangay, with materials such as Wilkins Bottle, Bamboo stick, Cable tie, Paint, Cardboard, Scratch paper, and other recyclables. The team will perform the activities with our group and barangay officials, and plan to create a new "Sort Your Heart" bin every 2 months using recyclable materials. This approach reduces waste by increasing engagement and proper disposal.

Recycling the recovered materials into signage is planned. Materials needed include recyclable material from the first project. The work will be done by our group, barangay officials, and volunteers, with a monthly cadence. The initiative reduces waste by diverting plastics and other non-biodegradable materials and raises awareness about proper segregation.

Sustainability Plan: The “Sort Your Heart” waste segregation bin project will continue by having regular monitoring conducted by our group to ensure its sustainability and effectiveness. We will collaborate with barangay officials to implement and monitor the project and establish partnerships with local schools, youth organizations, and small businesses to provide time, resources, and manpower. Educational campaigns through posters and social media will raise awareness, and a group of youth volunteers will be trained as “Youth EcoGuides” to help with advocacy, monitoring, and education in the community. These efforts will help maintain impact and broadening reach.
