Cargo Hose Connection Work Procedures

PPE Requirements

  • Check Cargo SDS and Transfer Orders: Confirm PPE requirements prior to commencing work.

  • Don the Correct PPE: Ensure appropriate personal protective equipment is worn as specified.

Flange Connection Setup

  • Bolt Installation:

    • Ensure a bolt is installed in every hole.

    • Bolts must extend beyond the nut face by a minimum of 3 threads.

  • Gasket Specifications:

    • Use a new 1/8" gasket.

    • Only a single gasket is permitted.

  • Flange Wraps:

    • Apply flange wraps prior to transfer startup.

Pre-Transfer Hose Inspection

  • Conduct Hose Inspection: Ensure the hose is suitable for the connection.

  • Insulating Flange or Bonding Cables: Verify presence and condition.

  • Secure Hose or Arm: Use a tag line for support.

  • Drip Pan Setup:

    • Remove drip pan covers.

    • Secure the hose or arm over the drip pan.

Flange Connection Procedure

  1. Loosen Bolts:

    • Loosen bottom header flange bolts slowly.

    • Loosen side flange bolts as necessary.

    • Verify the header is clear of pressure and liquid.

  2. Remove Bolts:

    • Remove all bolts carefully.

  3. Inspect Flange Face:

    • Inspect for damage, wear, or defect.

  4. Align Hose Arm:

    • Align the hose arm to the header.

    • Insert 3 bolts at the flange bottom.

  5. Gasket Installation:

    • Insert the new gasket properly.

    • Insert additional bolts in all holes.

  6. Bolt Tightening:

    • Secure all bolts in a star pattern.

    • Ensure bolts extend beyond the nut face by at least 3 threads.

  7. Pressure Test:

    • Conduct a pressure test on the dock hose arm connection.

    • Wrap dock hose arm connection as required.

  8. Conduct PPE Check Again:

    • Recheck cargo SDS and transfer orders for PPE requirements.

Dock Hose/Arm Securing

  • Tag Line Use: Secure dock hose or arm with a tag line.

  • Loose Bolt Procedure:

    • Loosen bottom header bolts slowly.

    • Loosen side bolts as necessary while leaving top bolt tight.

  • Verify Conditions:

    • Ensure dock hose arm is clear of liquid and pressure.

    • Remove all bolts to detach the dock hose arm.

Cleaning and Inspection

  • Remove Dock Hose Arm: Detach it carefully.

  • Gasket Material Removal: Remove all remnants of gasket material.

  • Inspect Flange Face: Check for pitting or damage.

  • Blind Installation: Align and install the blind with the dock hose or arm.

  • New Gasket Installation: Place a new gasket as needed.

  • Bolt Insertion: Insert a bolt in every hose flange hole.

  • Even Tightening: Tighten bolts evenly in a star pattern making sure to maintain the 3 threads rule.

  • Repeat for Barge Pipeline Header: Conduct the same procedure for the barge pipeline header.

  • Disconnect Bonding Cable: If applicable, ensure it is detached.

Post-Transfer Actions

  • Drip Pan Covers Replacement: Reinstall the drip pan covers.

  • Conduct Post Transfer Inspection: Evaluate overall safety and integrity post-operation.
