Heuristics are similar to an educated guess, solving problems quickly and efficeintly, and are one of the evolutionary mechanisms that help us survive as a species;

Set of Heuristics

Visibility of System Status: if an email was sent, it should show that it was sent.

Match between system & real world: like icons that represent their actions

User control and freedom: should be able to revert mistakes

Consistency and Standards

Error prevention

Recognition rather than recall: should be able to recognize things off of patterns rather then memorizing.

Flexibility and efficiency of use: a good interface should be appealing to both

Aesthetic and minimalist design

Help users with errors: error codes are too technically complex; there should be a way to understand what each one means.

Help and documentation: users should have access to something like a forum for their issues, or some sort of documentation for using your product.
