PDH Definitions

Active Listening: Requires you to listen carefully to the speaker, understand what is being said, think about what is being said in response, and save the information for later use.

Assertive: Showing or having a strong personality with confidence

Body language: Displaying your emotions or thoughts through the use of your body

Communication: Exchanging information by speaking, writing, or using other media.

Cyberbullying: Using electronics or the internet to bully someone; typically texting, spreading rumours etc

Compassion: Having sympathy or concern for the misfortunes of others

Diversity: The practice of including people of various ethnic and social backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations etc.

Empathy: The ability to share as well as understand the feelings of another

Inclusive: Not excluding other parties or groups

Interpersonal skills: The behaviours and tactics used to communicate and interact with other people

Intimate relationships: Relationships that involve mutual intimate feelings; trust, caring, acceptance

Negotiation: Coming to an agreement that satisfies both parties

Support network: A network of people that can provide emotional or physical support to an individual

Transphobia: A dislike or fear of people who are transsexual or transgender.

Homophobia: Dislike or fear of people who are part of the LGBTQ+

Vilification: Say or write offensive things about someone or something to have a bad opinion on others

Componenets of inclusive and equal relationships: communication, loyalty, honesty, respectful, inclusive, empathy, trust, acceptance

TTT Strategy: Trust, Talk, Take control strategy; a good process for recognising unsafe and violent situations

Examples of using power positively in relationships: go revise bitch

Examples of using power negatively in relationships: go revise again idiot
