1.01 Interaction of Heredity and Environment (Nature vs. Nuture)
Terms
Sensitive period/Critical period: the organism is most affected by outside factors in the environment (i.e. babies, toddlers)
seen in Lorenz’s study of baby ducks who imprint on the first moving object they see
Temperament: our patterns and characteristic ways of responding to the environment; is genetically influenced
reciprocal determinism: the term that describes when a child’s temperament influences the parent’s behavior and in turn influences the development of the child’s personality (dual influence)
Identical: monozygotic (two zygotes separate when 14 wks)
fraternal: dizygotic (two zygotes)
Heritability: the genetic disposition of developing a behavior or trait, but it is not a predetermined outcome.
having 2 tall parents but being malnourished as a child makes it more likely that you will not be tall, despite genetics
