Unit 2 - Organic Chemistry [CHEM30]
Alkenes and Alkynes
*contain C-C double and triple bonds
- general alkene formula = CnH2n
- general alkyne formula = CnH2n-2
Naming Alkenes and Alkynes
- find parent chain (with double or triple bond)
- want lower number on the placement
* -ane suffix (single bond)
* -ene suffix (double bond)
* -yne suffix (triple bond)
* double bond > in between chain 2-3
* triple bond > in between chain 3-4
### examples
* 4-methyl-2-pentene
* 3-ethyl-5-methyl-3-heptene
* CH2=CH-CH2-CH3
- multiple double or triple bonds
* add prefixes (di, tri, tetra)
* 1,3- butadiene
* 3-methyl-1,4-pentadiyne
### examples
* 4-methyl-1-cyclohexene
* 4,6-dimethyl-1-cyclohexene
* 1-methyl-1,4-cyclohexdiene
