Act 1.1

Storm

  • boatswain & servants enter before the court - the court enter wearing very regal clothes - looks kinda silly

  • a model boat is carried by the crew overhead - the court crowd around/underneath, being unhelpful

  • gonzalo wears a white ruff collar - choked by his naivety

  • prospero stands over the stage on a mini stage at the top - higher above them = more power

Act 1.2

  • ‘pluck my magic garment’ - Miranda takes off his robe, prospero lays down his staff → eerie sound effect foreshadows the story of betrayal

    • he becomes less serious, hugs miranda - foreshadows how his magic consumes him

  • ‘no soul…as an hair’ - he touches miranda’s hair affection

  • hugs miranda after his story - creates sympathy for his story and him as a father
