-They see new media as essential and impartial facilitators of this democratic ideals (most people obtain their knowledge about politics from newspapers,tv,internet) (neophiliacs) (impacts the wives/boomers, as they d - newspapers aren’t impartial, not possible as every news outlet has a lean towards an ideology)

-Doyle(2002) need to study media ownership and control, to see the strengths,limitations of media, also it’s important to have a diverse and pulralistic media provision so that all points of view can be heard.

‘if concentration of media ownership occurs in a society ther eis a danger that abuses power and influence by elites will go unnoticed and that democracy and justice will suffer as a result’ -rupert murdoc(news corp).

-Pluralist argue that they acknowledge that there is a concentration of ownership but its okay beacause;

  • The power is in the hand of the people (economic benefits)

  • Revitalising democracy (democratic mirror)

  • Impartial (public boardcasting service)

    Regulators (ofcom) (state controls)

  • Ethics and integrity in journalism (media professionalism)
