Types of Microscopes

Parts and Functions of a Compound Microscope

Illuminating Parts (Provide the light):
Mirror / Illuminator (Light Source): Reflects or provides light to view the specimen.
Substage Diaphragm / Condenser: Regulates and controls the amount of light reaching or striking the specimen.
Magnifying Parts (Enlarge the specimen):
Eyepiece (Ocular Lens): Magnifies the image (typically ) and focuses light to the eye where the observer peeps through.
Objective Lenses: Gather light and magnify the image:
Low Power Objective (LPO): Magnifies or to locate and enlarge the specimen.

Microscope Light Path and Magnification

Light Path Sequence: Light Source Condenser Specimen Objective Eyepiece Eye.
How It Works: Light from the source passes through the condenser and specimen. The objective lens magnifies the image, and the eyepiece lens magnifies it further to form a larger virtual image for the observer's eye.
