Introduction – Hello! (5 minutes)
Total Time: 5 minutes
Start with a cheerful song like "Hello, Goodbye" by The Beatles.
Encourage student participation by using actions (waving, smiling) to introduce the concept of greetings.
Core Activities – Name Game (20 minutes)
Total Time: 20 minutes
Name Circle (10 minutes)
The student will say their name and a simple favorite thing (color, animal, etc.).
Repeat the name to help with pronunciation.
Interactive Meet and Greet (10 minutes)
The student greets themselves using phrases like "Hello, my name is ___."
Then they will practice asking, "What is your name?" before introducing themselves to an imaginary partner using the same phrases.
Core Activities – Picture Vocabulary Match (15 minutes)
Total Time: 15 minutes
Vocabulary Flashcards (5 minutes)
Present flashcards of common ESL words (hello, goodbye, name, friend) with pictures using an online tool.
Matching Game (10 minutes)
Display flashcards on a virtual platform.
The student will match words with pictures and call out the names and words together to reinforce vocabulary.
Assessment – Show and Tell (5 minutes)
Total Time: 5 minutes
The student can introduce an object from their environment using the template: "My name is ___ and this is my ___."
This reinforces vocabulary and speaking skills while promoting confidence.
Extensions/Homework – Family Introductions (5 minutes)
Total Time: 5 minutes
The student draws a picture of their family and writes or attaches labels with names.
They can bring this back to an online class for a "Family Introductions Day" in a future lesson, promoting connection and language use at home.
