Conditionals

Conditional Sentences

Conditional sentences, often called "if clauses," are used to express situations and their consequences. They are usually composed of two clauses: the "if" clause (the condition) and the main clause (the result).

Podmínkové věty, často nazývané „jestliže věty“, se používají k vyjádření situací a jejich důsledků. Obvykle se skládají ze dvou vět: Věta „pokud“ (podmínka) a hlavní věta (výsledek).

Types of Conditionals:
  1. Zero Conditional:

    • Form: If + present simple, present simple

    • Use: Facts or general truths.

    • Example: If you heat water to 100 degrees, it boils.

  2. First Conditional:

    • Form: If + present simple, will + base verb

    • Use: Real and possible situations in the future.

    • Example: If it rains tomorrow, I will take an umbrella.

  3. Second Conditional:

    • Form: If + past simple, would + base verb

    • Use: Unreal or hypothetical situations.

    • Example: If I won the lottery, I would travel the world.

  4. Third Conditional:

    • Form: If + past perfect, would have + past participle

    • Use: Past situations that did not happen.

    • Example: If I had known about the party, I would have gone.

Mixed Conditionals:
