English Sounds - L [l] Consonant - How to make the L [l] Consonant
To produce the L [l] consonant sound, place the tip of your tongue against the alveolar ridge, which is the bony part just behind your upper front teeth. As you articulate the sound, allow the air to flow around the sides of your tongue, while keeping the tongue in contact with the ridge. This creates the distinct lateral quality of the L sound.
