SPECIATION TYPES

Speciation: When the development of a new species that occur when pre-existing populations are isolated in some way.

Allopatric Speciation: Geographic barrier isolating species

Sympatric Speciation: Same location, other barriers

Prezygotic barrier: does not allow reproduction to happen
  • Behavioral Isolation: differences in behaviors that isolate them Ex: different mating songs in birds, which causes the birds to not be attracted

  • Habitat Isolation: Different habitats do not allow reproduction For Example one prefers aquatic, and one prefers terrestrial.

Postzygotic Isolation: Offspring cannot reproduce, survive long, or develop

<<*Species can be impacted by different types of isolation at the same time.<<

<<Isolation isolates gene pool of species, so mechanisms of evolution act on them separately.<<
