Arm Bones
Carpals:
Location: 8 small bones (scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform, hamate, capitate, trapezoid, and trapezium) in the wrist between the forearm and the hand.
Function:
Allow for wrist movement.
Absorb shock and help stabilize the wrist during activities like gripping or lifting.
Scapula
Location: On the upper back, each side of the body connects the upper arm bone (humerus) to the clavicle. It sits on the ribcage, and its edges are felt along the back of the shoulder.
Function:
Helps move the arm and provides a place for muscles to attach.
Allows the shoulder to move in many directions
Clavicle
Location: Front of the shoulder, connecting the chest to the shoulder.
Function:
Helps support the shoulder and allows arm movement.
Protects nerves and blood vessels near the shoulder.
Humerus
Location: Upper arm bone, extending from the shoulder to the elbow.
Function:
Helps with arm movement and supports muscles in the upper arm.
Connects the scapula to the radius and ulna (forearm bones), enabling flexion and extension of the arm.
Ulna
Location: One of the two bones in the forearm, on the pinky side of the arm, extending from the elbow to the wrist.
Function: Helps the elbow move and works with the radius to allow wrist movement.
Radius
Location: One of the two bones in the forearm, on the thumb side of the arm, extending from the elbow to the wrist.
Function: Works with the ulna to support arm and hand movements.
Phalanges
Location: Bones in the fingers. There are 14 phalanges in each hand (3 in each finger, 2 in the thumb).
Function: Allows for finger and toe movement, helping with tasks like gripping, walking, and balance.
Distal:
Location: Tip bones of the fingers.
Function: Tasks that require precision, such as gripping or touching.
Middle
Location: In between the Distal and proximal phalanges (no thumbs)
Function: Help provide support and flexibility for finger and toe movements, assisting in actions like gripping, holding, and walking.
Proximal
Location: Bones in the fingers closest to the hand.
Function: Help with bending and moving the fingers and toes.
Metacarpals
Location: 5 bones in the palm, between the carpals and the phalanges.
Function: Help give the hand shape and allow it to move.
