Indwelling and Ecstasy

The concept of indwelling refers to a profound spiritual union where each person exists in a state of ecstasy with another. This mystical experience is characterized by a deep mutual understanding and presence, where individuals transcend their own individuality to fully engage with the essence of the beloved. In this framework, ecstasy can be understood as a transformative state of being that involves leaving oneself behind, resulting in an immersive experience where one stands totally in communion with another's spirit.

Divine Perichoresis

Perichoresis is a theological concept that signifies the mutual indwelling of the Persons of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This term illustrates the unique relationship and the absolute oneness of their divine nature, even while each Person subsists individually. The notion of perichoresis emphasizes that each Person of the Trinity shares life and divinity with the others, creating a dynamic relationship of love and opposition. This doctrine is a core tenet that has been embraced by both Eastern and Western Christianity, having been formally established at the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD, which affirmed the interrelatedness and co-equality of the Trinity.

The Procession of the Holy Spirit

During the Council of Constantinople, the Creed articulated and affirmed the divinity and significance of the Holy Spirit within the Trinity. It declared that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, establishing the Spirit's divine role and function in the life of believers and the Church. The term "ekporeuomenon" is crucial within this context, meaning "to proceed" or "to emanate," denoting the action of the Holy Spirit coming forth from the Father, reflecting the Spirit’s distinct yet united role within the Godhead. Understanding this procession is essential for grasping the relational dynamics of the Trinity and the inherent love shared among its Persons, as well as the Spirit’s active presence and work in the world today.
