acid, bases, and neutralization reactions

proton donors- substance that ionize in aqueous solution to form hydrogen ions H+, there by increasing the concentration of H+(aq)

monoprotic acids- yielding one H+ per molecule of acid HCL and HNO3

diprotic- one that yields two H+ per molecule of acid H2SO4

arrhenius: acid is a substance that increases he amount of hydrogen ions

base is a substance that increases the amount of hydroxide ions

Bronstead- Lowry

acid is a H+ ion donor, base is an H+ ion acceptor

Lewis Acids and bases-

acide is an electron pair acceptor

base is an electron pair donor
