比 bi (A+bi+B)

  • Avery 比 Anh 高。 Avery bi Anh gao. (Avery is taller than Anh)

  • Katie geng gao (Katie is taller though)

  • 今天比较冷 jin tian bi jiao leng- today is colder

A not A

他高不高吗?ta gao bu gao ma? (Is he tall or not tall?)

S + 又 + adj1 + 又 _ adj2 (Used to describe someone that has two traits at once. Need to both be describing either positive or negative.)

这个苹果又红又大 - Zhe ge ping guo 又 hong 又 da - This apple is red and big. 

S + bu + adj + 不 + adj. opposite (Used to describe something in the medium range. The two adjectives used here are usually opposites.)

  • 今天不冷不热- Jin tian bu leng bu re - today is not hot or cold.

  • 我不高也不爱 - Wo bu gao ye bu ai - I am not tall or short, medium size. 

  • 正好 - Zheng hao - just right

Gen yi yang - similiar

Zhe ge ping guo he na ge ping guo gen yi yang - that apple and this apple are similar.

Ju + adj (Ju - huge/super)

Ta de gou ju ke ai - Super cute dog. 

Adjective describing Objects

  • wo de gege shi na ge zu qiu de nan hai zi - my brother is the boy that plays soccer.

  • wo de peng you xiang qu kan wo zuo tian kan de dian ying - my friend wants to go watch the movie i watched yesterday.

Mei zuo de zuo ye xue sheng dou yao qu study hall - the students that did not do homework must go to study hall.

Verb Complements (S+V+complement+object)

  • Wo kan jian le shu. I saw a book

  • Wo kan wan le shu. I finished a book

  • Cuo - wrong

  • Wo kan cuo le shu. I read the book wrong. 

S + AA (single word ajdective) If you use this sentence structure to describe something negative, it means you like it. 

  • Ping guo hong hong de - apple is red.

  • Dan gao da da de - cake is big

  • Hai zi pang pang de - This baby is chubby.

Subject VO phrase Verb 得 Adverb. 

  • Wo pao bu pao de hen kuai. - i ran quickly.

  • Wo zai bing shang zou lu zou de hen man - i walk on the ice slowly.

  • S Verb 得 Adverb

  • Wo yu xi 得 hen hao - i reviewed well.




像一样 xiang … yi yang - having the same qualities (same as/ like)

Jin tian wan shang de yue liang xiang bing gan yi yang

Yang jing da du zi xiao.

Eyes were bigger than my stomach. 

Yan gao shou ji.
