Know how biomechanics can help prevent at risk injuries and how it can help and how it can help performance.

Biomechanics applies concepts of physics to the movement of the body

  1. Injury prevention

    1. Identifies faulty movement patterns

    2. Helps improve joint alignment

    3. Reduces stress on muscles/tendons

    4. Enhances proper posture and technique

  2. Performance enhancement

    1. Optimizes efficiency by refining movement

    2. Reduces energy waste improving endurance

    3. Enhances force production and agility by improved muscle coordination

Familiarize yourself with the MMT: its use, which disorders it can help diagnose,

tests/examination technique used for diagnosis, and other tests used for diagnosis in

conjunction with this test.

Manual muscle testings are often done during physical examination. It can help to diagnose muscle weakness, atrophy, and/or paralysis. It evaluates muscle strength and function by applying resistance and grading muscle performance. It can help diagnose conditions such as neuromuscular disorders, spinal cord injuries, and peripheral nerve injuries. Its grading system goes from 0, trace, poor, fair, good, and normal. The patient is first positioned to isolate the muscle group, the examiner applies resistance, and the strength is recorded based on the grading scale. Commonly tested muscles are the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle. Other tests used alongside this one are EMG, NCS, and MRI.
