1.1.3 Embedded Systems
An embedded system is a small computer built into a piece of equipment designed to perform a specific function.
It has limited functionality however is extremely efficient
The characteristics of an embedded systems are:
- ROM (Read only memory) - cannot be changed
- Timers
- Sensors
- Actuators
- SOME have a simple user interface (eg. buttons)
Some examples include:
- Microwaves
- dishwashers
- Digital clocks
- Lifts
- Medical equipment
