1.1.3 Embedded Systems​

An embedded system is a small computer built into a piece of equipment designed to perform a specific function.

It has limited functionality however is extremely efficient

The characteristics of an embedded systems are:

  • ROM (Read only memory) - cannot be changed
  • Timers
  • Sensors
  • Actuators
  • SOME have a simple user interface (eg. buttons)

Some examples include:

  • Microwaves
  • dishwashers
  • Digital clocks
  • Lifts
  • Medical equipment​
