SAT Grammar Prep: Subject verb agreement
Defining subject-verb agreement
-subject-verb agreement is a convention of standard English that requires a subject and verb to agree in number.
-This essentially means that the verb form needs to match the type of noun. So if the noun in a sentence is singular, the verb form in these sentence should be to, and vice versa.
Example
Wrong agreement: Blair Waldorf are the fashion icon of Gossip Girl.
-this is wrong because the subject (blair waldorf) is singular, but the verb in this sentence (are), is plural.
Correct agreement: Blair Waldorf is the fashion icon of Gossip Girl.
-this is correct because the subject (Blair Waldorf) is singular, and the verb is is the singular version of to be.
