Questions to ask Merve

Methods section:

how much do I say of the participants in the methods section, considering I have also repeated this in the results section

Do i put the Mean, gender distribution at the beginning (so of the participants recruited) or should i put it lower and only of the ones we used in the final analysis.

when saying the ages of participants ‘participants (67 female and 41 male, mean age = 23.93, SD = 11.56, age range = 18-64)’ do I put years?

  • describe inclusion and exclusion in methods and mention final number of participants, and data preparation in results section

How do I add the experimental stimuli we used (the advert blocks) to the appendix?

  • you don’t have to, mention them in the methods, could add the links but not necessary

Introduction section

Can I still use Mollaahmetoglu et al. (2023)? I think you briefly mentioned that we shouldn’t reference this

  • can reference this but not masters study

Do I have to state ‘core branded NoLo product’ throughout my diss or can I shorten it to ‘core NoLo product’

  • can actualy say ‘core nolo’

I have stated that previous findings have used alcohol dependent populations, which may have skewed cue reactivity due to their dependency, which could lead to a higher likelihood of significance in their findings, thus it may not be applicable to populations outside of this, which is another reason why we are looking for hazardous and harmful drinkers. Is this correct? Or is it only because hazardous and harmful drinkers are still at an increased rick of alcohol related harm and they have been almost disregarded in research?

  • not necessarily, nit a particular limitation

  • look at older research, lowkey less ethical

With the placebo studies there is an expectancy of alcohol effect because they don’t know it is NoLo beverages, but is this expectancy of alcohol still present in your study because they smell the NoLo products which obviously smells like alcohol?

  • expectancy effect, look at masters study, only placebos

When looking at drink perception, with the people that thought they were watching an alcoholic advert instead of NoLo, does this link back to the point of expectancy effect of alcohol?

  • not necessarily just for misperception

sensitivity analysis

meaningful change: did the conditions swap places as highest, are they still statistically significantly higher

if diff could tell us

I changed my third hypothesis a while ago before my results, just checking that is alright

  • can change it

Results section

Using homogeneity tests ticked off during ANCOVA- are we supposed to have levene’s tests in our inferential outputs?

  • need to report for assumption checking anyway, report with this

  • not necessarily main inferential result

When reporting things in the inferential statistics, if we supply the information in a table or in the appendix do we still have to write out all of the means or do I do what I did for the descriptive statistics?

  • make sure to include in the info

  • can put the assumption checking graph if needed, nothing else tbh

  • SPSS outputs is not necessary but check with supervisor head

With the assumptions, do I have to include the graphs, like histograms and linearity assumption, into the appendix as well as the outputs?

Homogeneity of regression slopes:

Do ANCOVA, add model, specify ‘build terms’ condition*preDAQ
