-Plants/Animals Kingdom-

Kingdom Plante

  • plants!!

  • multicellular, eukaryotic, photosynthetic.

  • cell walls=made of cellulose.

  • primary producers in the ecosystem.

  • provide oxygen/food.

  • special parts, EX…

  1. roots.

  2. stems.

  3. leaves.

  4. some flowers/fruits.

  • trees can “live” for thousands of years!

EX: Methuselah Tree.

  • 4,800 years old.

  • Rafflesia Arnolldii= largest flower in the world.

  • smells like rotting meat to attract flies.

  • some plants can move!!

EX: Mimosa Pudica- closes when it’s ;eaves are touched.

  • sunflowers track the sun.

Bamboo

  • fastest growing plant.

  • can grow up to 35 inches a day.

Venus Flytrap

  • carnivorus.

  • traps/digest insects to supplement nutrient intake.

Kingdon Animalia

  • multicellular.

  • eaukaryotic/heteratrophic.

  • special cells= body organization.

  • Tissues - organs - organsystems - organism!

  • Have ability to move.

  • most reproduce sexually.

  • capable of complex behaviors.

  • simple animals have no organs/organ systems.

EX: sponges!

  • filter feeders.

  • complex animals have organs/organ systems.

EX of systems: circulatory, digestive, nervous.

Body Organization Plan

  • Symmetry- arrangement of body parts around a central axis.

  • Asymmetry- no symmetry/no pattern, cannot be cut into 2 matching halves.

EX: sponges/coral.

  • Radial Symmetry- symmetry around a central axis that can be divided into even halves in any direction. (wheel/pizza shape)

EX: jellyfish, starfish, hydra.

  • Bilateral Symmetry- left/right sides are mirror images (not perfect), found in more complex organisms.

EX: worms, insects, vertebrate.

Invertebrates

  • 95% of animals.

  • insects.

  • arachnids.

EX: spiders, scorpians, ticks.

  • mollusks.

EX: snails, clams, squid.

  • Worms.

  • Crustaceans.

EX: crabs, lobster, crayfish.

Vertebrates

  • Fish.

  • Birds.

  • Reptiles.

  • Amphibians.

  • Mammals.
