Charting Assignment

Who: The student (Ava)

Client Progress/Update Since the Last Session: Since the last session, Ava has been able to focus more on healthy self-care behaviors, such as mindful grocery shopping, and emphasizing things that specifically concern her, such as skincare and going for walks in the woodland trails.

24-hour recall/Typical day: AVA would normally skip breakfast or take something easily transportable. However, they wouldn’t keep her satisfied, so around 10 AM, she would try to prep snacks such as trail mix. Lunch was particularly hard for her due to transport and finding something that would keep her satiated for longer periods of time. Due to difficulty finding good snacks that worked for her, she would sometimes resort to snacks such as pop tarts or Oreos. At dinner time, she would go for easier things, such as pizzas and pasta with Alfredo or spaghetti sauce. She noted that she also struggled with staying up late at night and snacking.

Client Notes: the client noted that she would frequently question why she would spend time scrolling on her phone and snacking later at night and had a hard time resisting the urge to fall back into her habits. Ava noted that she tried coping mechanisms but faced difficulty when approaching her to start them. She also states that she must make a conscious effort not to restrict herself from breakfast/food the next day to make up for overeating/snacking the day before. She also noted sources of familial stress that may influence her current eating patterns

Goals: Ava would like to work on trying to be more conscious and aware of her coping mechanisms, including putting reminders/alarms on her phone to take breaks. She also pointed out that later in the night, she can silence her phone or put distance between her and her phone to resist scrolling. She stated that she is encountering resistance as she could delete the apps that encourage her to scroll, but that would make her download them again, and it serves as a form of communication between her and her friends who live overseas. During the session, Ava set a goal to delete TikTok, password-protect access to her Instagram, and try to put more mindfulness within coloring to utilize it as a coping mechanism to prevent binges.
