Orientation to the Body - Terms of position & direction
Cranial, Superior, Rostral - Structure being closer to the head or higher than another structure of the body. Does not refer to limbs.
Anterior + Ventral - Structure being in front of another structure in the body
Posterior + Dorsal - In the back or behind another structure
Medial - A structure that is close to the median plane
Lateral - Structure that is further away from the medial plane
Proximal - Reference to limbs, the structure is close to the median plane or the root of the limb
Distal - Reference to limbs, the structure is further away from the median plane or root of the limb
Caudal + Inferior - Structure is close to the feet or bottom of the body (not in respect to the limbs)
Superficial - Close to the surface of the body
Deep - Further away from the surface of the body
Ipsilateral - On the same side as the reference point
Contralateral - On the opposite side of the reference point
