Chapter 1: Introduction & Chapter 2: Show The Grid & Chapter 3: Lighting Plan Sheet & Chapter 4: Lighting Plan & Chapter 5: Lighting Layer & Chapter 6: Put Actual Lighting & Chapter 7: Think The Size & Chapter 8: Conclusion
Tree Tagging Policy
When tagging trees, use the following policy:
If there's only one size of a particular species, label it "QA."
If there are multiple sizes, use numbers to indicate the size (e.g., 2 for 24-inch box, 3 for 36-inch box).
For mitigation, if there's a 5-gallon and a 15-gallon plant, don't put a number on the 5-gallon, and put a 1 on the 15-gallon.
Canopy Size Scaling
If a CNOF (Canopy Near Overhead Feature) needs to be smaller in one location than another on the same project, it's generally acceptable to scale the symbol.
This often depends on the client's preference for fullness at install versus healthy growth.
For hedges, where plants are on a set spacing (e.g., 3-foot on center, 4-foot on center), consider reducing the symbol size if the diameter is too large and looks messy.
Alternatively, create two different symbols for the same plant, renaming one as "hedge."
Land F/X Keyboard Commands
When a symbol is selected pressing the "k" key will bring up a list of commands.
The "v" key is helpful for copying along a line or polyline (curve).
The clone command automatically gives the placing command again.
Viewport Rotation Workaround
When the viewport is rotated, select all the plants and rotate them by the inverse angle using the properties panel.
Alternatively, use "select similar" and rotate everything by 90 degrees.
Ground Cover Hatch Paintbrush Tool
Access the p-hatch command and then select the "b" option for brush options.
Adjust the size using "w" and "s" and rotate it using "a" and "d."
Poly Divide Command
The poly divide command allows you to divide a polyline into equal segments.
Use the command, select the polyline, and specify the number of segments.
This keeps the outside as a polyline, adding separate polylines.
Labeling Tool
The labeling tool can label a single plant or multiple plants within a polygon.
It can provide a total quantity with multiple leaders.
This tool is useful for callouts pointing to specific plants with labels.
Access the settings via the irrigation and site settings to change the appearance.
Plant palette sheets can be created by going into model space, clicking on the plant, and getting the label and photo.
Plant Schedule
The plant schedule automatically scales.
To use the label photo callout feature, the viewport must be locked.
Double-click to enter the viewport, select a plant, and choose to label with botanical name, common name, or no caption. Photos are Land F/X images, ensuring no copyright issues.
Images are linked to the internet, but etransmitting the files includes the links.
Plant Schedule Grid Lines
- It was decided that plant schedules should be created to exclude gridlines.
Setting Up Land F/X Projects
Go to FX Admin then hit Project List.
Open FX Admin and go to the project list.
If the existing project isn't there hit new and type in the job number and job name then click OK.
Open the project in Land F/X to associate elements with it.
Lighting Plan Sheets
- Create a new sheet for the lighting plan, duplicating the planting sheet and turning the planting elements gray. Alternatively, have the lighting plan be a color where the planting is grayed out.
Transparent Hatches
Create a new layer.
Make it a solid.
Within the layer, go to the transparency column and adjust the transparency from 0 to 90.
Ensure that the "plot transparency" box is checked in the plot settings.
Sheet Creation
When creating a new sheet, save as the existing sheet to the appropriate folder (e.g., lighting plan).
Right-click on the new sheet and import the layout from the existing sheet.
Rename and renumber the sheet in the project navigator.
XREF Management
Detach or unload the planting XREF when creating an irrigation or lighting plan.
Drag the appropriate XREF (e.g., irrigation) into the model space.
Turn the planting XREF gray in the new sheet.
Lighting Symbols
Land F/X lighting symbols are accessed via FX Site > Lighting.
Select the desired lighting type, LED color range, and finish.
The lighting should be on its own XREF to avoid showing up where it shouldn't.
Inserting blocks into a block gives it color in the sheet's legend.
Standard Lighting Symbols
Create a basic lighting template with standard symbols for path lights, uplights, and hanging lights.
Use distinct colors for different lighting types, but ensure they are distinguishable in black and white.
Custom Lights
Custom lights with photos can be added to the Land F/X library and imported into projects.
Store the palette with the lights on the Land F/X server.
Lighting Details
Avoid including specific lighting details to limit liability.
Specify riser height for path lights but not the stake type.
Tree Mounting
Arborists have differing opinions on tree mounting methods.
Spikes are generally considered safer than straps that can girdle the tree if not maintained.
Blocks
Blocks for barbecues, sinks, and other amenities are available.
Elevation symbols for plants can be used in elevation details.
Hatches for gravel and other materials are available.
Custom line types can be created for utility lines, electrical, and water.
Leaders with Text
Leaders with text can be created via Site > Leaders > Leader with Text.
These automatically scale for paper space.
Background masks can be added in the properties panel.
Spot Elevations
Spot elevations can be used in irrigation plans to calculate pressure.
Place spot elevations at low points, valves, and the point of connection.
The system might read the survey data or they can be manually input.
Freeze them in the irrigation plan to avoid showing up where it shouldn't.
Staking Plan
- There are some tools to type text in parking spaces where it will increment the number automatically.
Tree Symbols
- Tree symbols should be kept to the planting plan to reduce any confusion.
Irrigation Graphics
Avoid showing pipe sizes on irrigation plans to limit liability unless requested.
It was noted to include total GPM so the size of the backflow and meter could be included as well.
