Properties of Thiols
- “Stinky” molecules such as skunk, garlic
- Inorganic H2S is the smell of rotten eggs. Thiols are added to natural gas so we can detect leaks.
- Thiols can be neutralized with hydrogen peroxide.
- Due to lack of H bonding, solubility/BP is lower than alcohols.

- Suffix “thiol” is added to the name.
