C2: The Brain

  • Control center for the body.

  • Manages many functions, such as breathing, moving, and seeing.

  • Also controls thinking, emotions, and behavior.

  • Each area of the brain manages different functions, but sometimes there is overlaps that more than one location controls a function.

  • The two hemispheres of the cerebral cortex are part of the forebrain, which is the largest part of the brain.

  • Contains the cerebral cortex and a number of other structures that lie beneath the cortex (called subcortical structures): thalamus, hypothalamus, ampituiray glands and the limbic system.

  • Associated with higher level processes.
