Resident cells = live permanently in the tissue

  1. Fibroblasts

    • Produce extracellular matrix

    • Build connective tissue

  2. Adipocytes

    • Fat cells

    • Store energy

  3. Fixed macrophages

    • Immune cells

    • Phagocytize invaders (stay in tissue)

  4. Mesenchymal cells

    • Stem cells

    • Can differentiate into other cell types
