VARIETIES AND REGISTERS OF SPOKEN LANGAUGE
LANGUAGE: The principal method of human communication, either written or spoken.
SPOKEN LANGUAGES: The language produced by articulate sounds as opposed to written.
WRITTEN LANGUAGES: is an invention that must be taught to children who will pick-up spoken language or sighn language by exposure even if they are not formaly instructed.
LANGUAGE REGISTERS
Variety: Generic term for a particular coherent form of language, language varieties is refering it to the various forms of language triggered by social factor.
is a specific set of linguistic items and human speech pattern.
Linguistic Item: Any basic unit of Language.
Human speech pattern: Accent and human voice.
DIFFERENT LANGUAGE VARIETIES (IMPORTANT)
PIDGIN: A grammatically simplified form of a language, used for communication between poepl not sharing a common language. Have limited vocubulary,some lements of it are taken from local languages and are not native languages, but arises out of languages contact between speakers of other languages.
ex yawa, and bisaya
CREOLE: Is a kanguage that comes from a simplified version of another language, or the mix of 2 or more languages. In Haiti, People speak a creole that is mostly basesd on French.
-ex Chavacano spoken in Zambaoanga, Philippines.
REGIONAL DIALECT: Also known as topolect or regiolect is a form of language spoken in a Particular geographical area.
Vernacualar: Child’s first language spoken.
ex are bicolano, cebuano, hilayanon, ilocano etc.
MINORITY DIALECT: Language by the minority population in a geographic area or location. The area may have several minority languages, depending upon the constitution or makeup of the population. Example Spanish, mexican, French is spoken by people in United States.
INDIGINIZED VARIETIES: Mainly spoken as second language in ex-colonies with multilingual populations. The difference from the standard variety may be linked to English Profeciency or may be part of range of varieties used to express identity.

Inner Circle: The native speakers
Outer circle: Countries that uses English as second Language.
Expanding Circle: English is a foreign language.

FIVE CATEGORIES OF LANGUAGE REGISTERS
STATIC: Rarely or never changes.
Examples include pledge of allegiance, The lord’s prayer, The preamble.
FORMAL REGISTER: Used in Formal settings,
Examples format for speaches, sermons and official bussiness.
CONSULTATIVE REGISTER: Standard form/way asking a direction for a staranger
Examples: Doctors and patients, Lawyer and Clients.
CASUAL REGISTER: Informal; used by peers
Examples: slang by group of friends.
INTIMATE: Private talk with people for couples or families.
