15-Minute Activity: Inclusion Bingo

Title: 15-Minute Activity: Inclusion Bingo

Objective:

Enhance students' understanding of inclusion and disability awareness through an interactive bingo game, fostering empathy and respect for diversity.

Activity Name: Inclusion Bingo

Materials Needed:

  • Bingo cards with various scenarios related to inclusion and disability (these can be pre-made on a template or hand-drawn)

  • Markers or crayons for marking cards

  • Prizes for winners (optional)

  • A timer or clock

Instructions:

  1. Introduction (3 minutes):Begin by discussing the importance of inclusion and what it means to respect and include everyone, regardless of abilities or differences. Briefly explain some common types of disabilities and how individuals can be included in various activities.

  2. Bingo Card Distribution (2 minutes):Hand out one bingo card to each student. Each square on the card should contain scenarios that promote inclusion, e.g., "I include a friend with a disability in games" or "I ask someone how they prefer to participate in our activity."

  3. Gameplay (8 minutes):Set a timer for 8 minutes. Call out different scenarios related to inclusion or disabilities from a list (this can be written on a board). If students have the scenario on their bingo cards, they mark it. If a student gets a full row marked (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally), they shout "Bingo!" and share the scenarios they marked off with the class.

  4. Wrap-Up (2 minutes):Discuss the different scenarios students marked off. Ask a few students to share their thoughts on why inclusion is important and how they can apply it in their daily lives.

Differentiation Options:

  • For students needing more support, offer bingo cards with pictures or symbols along with the text.

  • For advanced students, encourage them to come up with their own inclusion scenarios to add to future bingo games.

Follow-up Suggestions:

  • Encourage students to create posters about inclusion to display in the classroom or school.

  • Plan a class discussion or project about different disabilities to further enhance awareness.

This activity is designed to be engaging and enlightening, enabling students to learn and discuss important societal values of inclusion within a short timeframe.
