Nazi Workers

The DAF was set up. it set minimum wages, maximum working hours, and basic workers rights. Although it didn’t offer the right to negotiate better conditions with employers, no right to protest working hours, no right to protection from punishments.

KdF: aim was to make workers happy. free or heavily discounted luxuries and benefits such as: holidays at resorts and cruises. theatre, galleries and museums. lectures. sports events. 35 million signed up but only a small fraction took part. KdF offered the chance to buy a real, rare luxury: a family car. The Volkswagen. Workers could save 5 marks a week to buy a VW. However few received them due to factories focusing of weapons not workers cars in 1938.

SdA: aimed to improve work facilities such as: better toilets, changing rooms and showers. Better food and canteens. Workplace activities such as exercise. Thousands of companies signed up and the Nazi gov helped pay for the improvements. However the workers were expected to make these improvements in their own time without pay. Employers threatened to sack workers who didn’t ‘volunteer’ to help.
