Zebra Habitat & Behaviors

Habitats:

• plains:

  • black and white stripes & extended to underparts

  • some with or without shadow stripes superimposed on white stripes

• mountain:

  • no shadow stripes

  • stripes do not extend to belly and a small dewlap develops on the throat

  • distinctive grid-iron pattering on the rump and tail

• cape mountain:

  • endangered

• grevy’s:

  • largest type of zebras

  • have a black stripe from the tail all along the spine and densely stripes in the legs

• Behaviors:

  • small herds of around 8

  • young fillies are rejected from herds around 18 months, and colts at 2 years
