Storyboard

• A graphic organizer is a visual tool to plan narratives. For videos, it's a shot-by-shot visual plan, using illustrated squares with notes on scene actions and script dialogue.

History of Storyboard

• Howard Hughes (1930) - Hell’s Angels or

• Walt Disney (1933) - Three Little Pigs is cited as the Father of Modern Day Storyboards.

• Gone with the Wind (1939) - first live-action movie to be completely drawn out on storyboards. These were on cards and sequentially pinned on a board.

Two Types of Storyboard:

• Traditional Storyboard

• Digital Storyboard

Purpose:

- used for advertisement agencies for commercials, directors for plays, and artists for comics. Even in business, we all need to plan for something whether it be at work, school, or home.

• Entertainment:

  • plan for shots of live-action video

  • plan a narrative for animation

  • plan scenery for stage production

  • plan or create a graphic comic or novel

• Business

  • pitch a product idea

  • make “how to” instructions

  • illustrates potential outcomes

  • present ideas to peers and colleagues

• Education

  • keep track of characters in a text

  • summarize a text

  • show steps in a n experiment

  • create an illustrated story
