Social Security Act: A 1935 law that set up a system of pensions for older people and set up the nation's first system of unemployment insurance. Provided income to retired workers. Huge program but is starting to struggle with the baby boomer generation. Helps disabled and unemployed too. Relief and Reform.


Tennessee Valley Authority: New deal program that built dams to control flooding and produce cheap electric power. Est 1933, helped Tennessee Valley’s economy. Federally owned and still exists to this day. Largest electricity provider in the US. Provides cheap electricity. Relief and Reform.


Security and Exchange Commission: Bureaus dedicated to protect investors and maintain order in the stock markets. Enforces and polices the stock market. Yelled at companies to abide by laws. Made public companies open-book to the government. Still around today. Reform.


Public Works Administration: The government created the Public Works Administration to make more jobs available for others so there aren't anymore Great Depressions. Economic stimulus during the GD. Demolished slums and built low rent cost housing for those in need; provided jobs in construction.


Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; Insured savings accounts in banks approved by the government. Protected bank investors money if the bank they invest in fails. Monitors and polices banks.


Civilian Conservation Corporation: Est 1933 by FDR to combat unemployment. Provided many jobs during GD. Created public works and structures + trails in parks all over.
