Circular Motion

Uniform Circular Motion is the motion of an object travelling at a constant speed on a circular path.

Rotation - the action of an object turning around an internal axis.

Revolution - the action of an object turning around an external axis.

Period(T) - The time required to travel once around a circle. The period can be used to find velocity (tangential).

v = d/t = 2πr/T

v = 2πr/T

t = T

v = 2πr/1/f = 2πrf

A bicycle makes 500 rpm. Determine period of the wheel in s.

500 r/m x 1 m/60 s = 8.33 r/s = 1/8.33 = 0.12 s
