Lab values pre-diabetes

Pre-diabetes is typically diagnosed based on the following lab values:

1. Fasting Blood Glucose:

• Normal: Less than 100 mg/dL

• Pre-diabetes: 100 to 125 mg/dL

• Diabetes: 126 mg/dL or higher (on two separate occasions)

2. Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) (2 hours after drinking a glucose solution):

• Normal: Less than 140 mg/dL

• Pre-diabetes: 140 to 199 mg/dL

• Diabetes: 200 mg/dL or higher

3. Hemoglobin A1c (reflects average blood glucose over the past 2-3 months):

• Normal: Less than 5.7%

• Pre-diabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%

• Diabetes: 6.5% or higher

If you have any of these pre-diabetes values, it’s important to work with your healthcare provider to make lifestyle changes and monitor your blood sugar regularly.
