Sin

Sin - Behaviour which is against God’s laws and wishes or against Christian principles of morality.

Original sin - Belief that human nature is flawed and that we are all born with the tendency to sin; this belief is held by some Christians coming from Adam and Eve’s eating of the forbidden fruit as recorded in Genesis 3.

‘All have sinned and fall short’ St Paul

Original Sin

  • Adam and Eve disobeyed God.

  • This is known as the Fall

  • This led to disharmony in nature, causing natural evil

  • This means that we are all born with the inclination to sin, causing moral evil

‘Sin entered the world through one man’

  • God created a perfect world and placed Adam and Eve within it

  • They chose to disobey God — The Fall and the cause of Original Sin

  • Sin and suffering were caused by Adam and Eve’s disobedience

  • We are all implicated in this

Personal sin

  • When individual humans use their free will to behave in a way that goes against God

  • For example - the seven deadly sins and going against the 10 commandments

‘For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God’

  • All human beings are imperfect

  • We tend to be selfish and sin

  • People may be greedy, envious, lustful

  • Therefore, we all need salvation [to be saved by God]

Influence

  • Pray for forgiveness from sins

  • Have faith in Jesus as the saviour from sin
