6th Grade Fun Connection Challenge

Activity 1: What’s Your Superpower?

An entertaining icebreaker where participants share their 'superpowers'—unique skills or fun facts about themselves!

Materials:
Superpower cards (pre-made), pens or markers.

Steps:

  • (3 min) Distribute pre-made 'Superpower' cards to all participants. Cards should have space for a fun fact or special skill.
  • (7 min) Each participant has to write down a unique 'superpower' they possess (e.g., 'I can eat a whole pizza in one sitting!' or 'I can wiggle my ears!').
  • (5 min) In a circle, each participant takes turns sharing their superpower with the group. Encourage humor and playful banter!
  • (5 min) Finally, vote for the 'most amusing' superpower and reward the winner with a fun sticker.

Objectives:
Encourage participants to share unique aspects of their personalities in a light-hearted manner, fostering connections through humor and creativity.

Activity 2: The Legend of the Tossed Ball

A lively game involving a beach ball where each participant shares a funny story or a secret about themselves.

Materials:
1 large beach ball marked with different prompts (e.g., 'most embarrassing moment', 'favorite snack', 'hidden talent').

Steps:

  • (5 min) Introduce the activity and explain that participants will toss the beach ball around the circle and share a story based on where their right thumb lands when they catch it.
  • (15 min) Participants start tossing the ball around. When someone catches it, they must share a story corresponding to their thumb’s prompt — humor encouraged!
  • (5 min) After all participants have shared, ask if anyone has a follow-up question or funny comment, sparking more laughter.

Objectives:
Promote storytelling in a fun way, creating opportunities for participants to bond over shared experiences while engaging in humor.

Activity 3: The Crazy Connection Web

A collaborative activity that visually connects participants through shared interests or experiences, resulting in laughter and discovery.

Materials:
1 skein (or ball) of yarn.

Steps:

  • (2 min) Gather everyone in a circle and explain that they will be creating a connection web with the yarn.
  • (10 min) Start by holding the end of the yarn, state your name, and share a quirky fact about yourself. Then, throw the yarn to someone who can relate, keeping hold of your section of yarn. That person will do the same, creating a web!
  • (3 min) Once everyone has shared, look at the connected web and humorously comment on the 'connections' made within the group, picturing it as a 'friendship web of fun!'
  • (5 min) Wrap up by discussing how all participants are connected through shared experiences and interests.

Objectives:
Build a visual representation of team connections that enhances bonding and highlights the group's unique qualities through shared laughs.
